A Colorful Spring is Ahead

Reem Acqua

Color is calling to us this coming Spring.  Pantone has spoken once again.  Pair all that color with the runway trends of the coming season and you have a perfect melange of style and deliciousness!  All this color conveys optimism and happiness which packs the perfect punch to chase away the winter doldrums!

Color, shine, drama, lingerie, feminine, masculine, the 70's, the 90's, the focus on sleeves, on shoulders, mesh and lace, stripes, florals graphic pattern, embellishment ~ Whew!  What is not represented?  Abundance is the name of the game in this "of the moment" style/color war.  Being transported to a sunny, happy, optimistic place is the ultimate goal.  The only problem you'll have trying to fill in your wardrobe for the coming season is what to choose, what to choose.

It's Going to be a Colorful Fall

As predicted, Tangerine Tango has proven to be a very popular color this year, and I think it has legs.  While we wait for the color of the year 2013, Pantone has provided designers with a trend forecast for this fall, as published last year.  We are seeing it take shape, and these more bright than muted colors happily coexist with almost anything!

If enveloping yourself in one of these colors seems like too much of a commitment, like anything else, a little goes a long way.  Know thyself; there's something for everyone.  Add touches of these saturated colors for an instant update.  Take a cue from these pictures and mix these colors together.  They're wonderfully complementary ~

Spring Forecast ~ by Pantone

Pantone's predictions for the spring palette have inspired me once again.  With the forecasters' & influencers' candy colored confections arriving in stores, fashion ~ home and runway, is taking a decidedly BRIGHT turn.  I'm all in.

Yellow = happy, no matter what is "on trend" ~

Whether you consider yourself a "color" person or not, there's something to be said for a shot of it.  It can be the perfect pick me up, especially as spring draws near.  Use a lot or use a little, the key is to temper it with black, white or any neutral (I love grey or beige), just to tone it down a bit.

If you're going for that dramatic monochromatic look, remember ~ texture, texture and texture

Lighten Up (for Spring)

I know it's not even winter yet but with fashion week in New York and Paris behind us, the wise color forecasters at Pantone have dictated which spring 2012 colors we'll be seeing.  Many are based on what we've seen on the runways, since home, fashion, and interior design are so closely related.  This is an example of what rooms may be wearing, because, "Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism, and the promise of a brighter day," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director for the Pantone Insitute.  I'll look forward to it ~ after I get thru this winter!

Brighter or subdued, these vivacious, enticing colors with just the right amount of neutral need not summarize a season. They are timeless.  Is it coincidental that these colors work beautifully together as well?

Pantone's Fashion and Home division also came up with 175 NEW (nuanced) colors.  They have a library of over 2,100 colors. "Who knew there were so many colors to choose from?"

Confused?  Need inspiration or ideas for color combinations??  There's an app for that!
