The Trends driving 2013 ~ part 2

Chintz is back; softer and mixed with a more modern sensibility.  It's not your grandmother's glazed, shiny cotton chintz of old.  The colors are being reworked and updated on many archival prints.

Digital printing is the wave of the future.  My girl Mary was a real innovator and many are hot on her heels.

These juxtaposed photo realist prints transfer easily off the runway and into the home, and vice versa.  Jakob Schlaepfer is doing innovative things with textiles.  I mentioned Charlotte Moss is working on a digitally printed fabric line based, I believe, on English garden design.  She spoke of it at a seminar recently.  I love them already!

There are always those that push the boundaries.  Wow, it is like I'm in the Rockies about to go over a cliff. I think I'd like my sofa a little less precarious, a little more zen.

The look of lace takes a hard line approach.  It's tough and tender, masculine and feminine.  Old school meets new school as we see the look applied in innovative ways.

The bright and the beautiful; color will be saturated and bold.  While gray and pastels still have their place, optimism makes an appearance in the form of primary colors

There's a lot to look forward to.  I have a feeling 2013 is gonna be a good year ~ but I don't want to rush anything.

The upcoming trends for the new year are exciting ones.  Embellishments are STILL big!  We are seeing them not only on clothing,  they have taken the home front by storm.  Trim, pillows, bedding, and anything else you can think of can be embellished or "glittified."

Wallpaper has been coming on strong, and the newer materials we are seeing are really exciting. Grasscloths have stood the test of time.  Now they are emblazoned with geometric patterns and overpainted with other designs.  Micas, metals, glass beads, wood veneers, and mother of pearl all make spectacular statements.

A subtle Art Deco influence is being seen on the runways and in the home; double points if it's in the color of the year, emerald.

The juxtaposition of contemporary and traditional elements happily co existing is really more than a trend, it's here to stay.  An infusion of well curated objects from a myriad of periods bring warmth and sophistication to any space.

Artisan, hand-made looking, or Americana type interiors.  With an uncertain economy, we want assurances that our home is our sanctuary, and are comforted in a way that best expresses us.

And Speaking of Stacked ~

I was thinking about this while I was writing my stacked wood post  but my holiday posts took precedence.  This is one of the things I will be working on in 2013 ~ I feel the need to "stack em up."  Like everything, there is a rhythm, a harmony, to collecting and wearing these baubles and it takes time to put a thoughtful collection together!
